The Division of Industrial Automation within the Department of Engineering Science conducts teaching in automation and robotics linked to several study programmes, such as Automation Engineering (undergraduate level), Robotics and Automation (master’s level), and AI and Automation (master’s level), as well as standalone courses and commissioned education for both students and professionals. The division also contributes to teaching in other programmes at various levels, from higher vocational education to doctoral studies. All education is characterized by a strong emphasis on practical elements and close collaboration with industry.
Research within the Industrial Automation research environment focuses on smart and human-centered automation with a particular emphasis on flexibility, including through the use of multi-agent systems (MAS) and Plug & Produce. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of control strategies and their impact on system flexibility and human interaction. In the long term, the research aims to develop flexible and intelligent production systems that can understand goals and adapt autonomously to a high degree. The activities are conducted in close collaboration with Swedish industry.
To strengthen our educational activities, we are now seeking a Senior Lecturer who wants to play a central role in further developing and advancing teaching within the division’s profile areas and thereby contribute to shaping the engineers of tomorrow.

Develop and implement methods that link automation to global sustainability goals and create solutions that benefit both industry and the environment.

Teach at undergraduate and advanced levels in the division’s relevant subjects, primarily related to industrial automation, control systems, pneumatics and hydraulics, and machine safety.

Supervise and examine students’ thesis projects to support the next generation of engineering talent.

Actively contribute to the development of courses and programmes at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.

Actively contribute to the development of the department and University West.
- Demonstrated teaching proficiency (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance): Applicants lacking formal teaching merits from an academic environment must have competence equivalent to the university’s requirements, which may have been acquired outside academia.
- Completed higher education pedagogy training of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If such training is missing, employment may still occur provided the training is completed within the first two years of employment.
- A doctoral degree in production technology, automation, or robotics or equivalent scientific competence, or other professional expertise relevant to the subject content and duties of the position (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance).

Experience in teaching within the fields of automation, control engineering, and robotics.

Experience of participating in industrial research projects?

Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating courses in automation at undergraduate and advanced levels.

Pedagogical training beyond the mandatory higher education pedagogy training.

Work experience, primarily in automation and control systems, relevant to the position and linked to the manufacturing industry.

Experience in planning and delivering education at various levels within the field of automation.

Experience of teaching in both Swedish and English.

Experience of conducting research in the area of flexible automation.

Documented experience of collaborating with various project partners such as academia and industry.

The position is permanent. A six-month probationary period may apply.
The selection process may include trial lectures, work samples, interviews, and reference checks.
