The technical section consists of three departments with a total of twelve research programs. The Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering conducts interdisciplinary engineering research on infrastructural and industrial socio-technical systems and processes. Our research is strongly linked to sustainable development and is based on extensive interaction with society and industry. The department’s research is conducted within two research programs: Industrial Engineering and Management and Civil Engineering and Built Environment.

The Department of Electrical Engineering conducts leading research and education in electrification, digitalization, and health technology, with applications ranging from renewable energy, electrified transportation systems, robotics, AI, and 5G/6G communication to smart sensors and medical technology. In collaboration with stakeholders, we develop medical and electrical systems spanning from materials and manufacturing understanding to the software required.
The department is organized into four divisions: Electricity, Integrated Smart Systems Technology, Solid-State Electronics, and Signals and Systems. Together, we create a dynamic and international environment where research and education meet, and where we contribute to technological solutions that shape the future of society—both locally and globally.

Subject area
We welcome you who are researching and teaching in any of the following subject areas:

Electrical engineering with a focus on electrification, digitalization or health technology, with applications ranging from renewable energy, electrified transport systems, robotics, AI, 5G/6G communications, smart sensors, or medical technology.

The interface between machine learning and experimental materials science. Development and application of machine learning methods in experimental workflows, data-driven experimental design, hypothesis generation or process modeling, deep learning for spectroscopic data or image processing, and applications of physics-informed machine learning. You would also like to have experience in automating data generation chains, for example through the development and application of relevant software and hardware for experiment control and database management.

Sustainability Transitions. You have a strong theoretical profile combined with qualitative or quantitative empirical research, for example in our strength areas of life science, energy systems, built environment, and ICT.

Organisation and Management with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. You have an established position at the intersection of organization and management studies, sociotechnical change, and AI, and combine theoretical perspectives that problematize core assumptions with empirical research on AI, in particular ethical AI in practice.

Urban Infrastructure and Spatial Planning. You have a background in civil engineering with expertise in urban-level spatial analysis of infrastructure systems, addressing challenges such as climate adaptation and infrastructure resilience, sustainable land and resource use, or development of nature-based solutions on the urban scale.
Duties:
You will work with:
research. To establish and lead your own research group; publishing research results in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and presenting them at leading international conferences; actively applying for and securing external grants.

teaching. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration and supervision of doctoral students.

administration. To participate in the general academic duties of the department. This includes serving on committees, taking on responsibilities beyond your own research and teaching assignment, contributing to the evaluation and development of teaching and research activities, working collaboratively with colleagues, and providing support and constructive feedback to colleagues.

Qualifications required
You must have:

a PhD that is of relevance to at least one of the specified subject areas. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed their PhD or attained equivalent expertise no more than seven years before the deadline for applications.
Research expertise within at least one of the specified subject areas.

had your main employment and conducted your research activities outside Sweden for at least the past four years immediately prior to the application deadline. Shorter stays in Sweden of a total of no more than twelve months may be accepted.

teaching expertise within at least one of the specified subject areas. Ability to link research to teaching, based on the subject concerned, subject didactics and teaching and learning in higher education.

completed at least five weeks of teacher training for higher education of relevance to the organization and its activities or be considered to have acquired the equivalent knowledge. The required training for teachers in higher education may be completed during the first two years of employment if there are special circumstances.

a documented ability to teach in Swedish or English.

ability to work with other people and otherwise meet the demands of suitability required to perform the duties well.

documented skills and expertise in productive research collaborations and in successfully leading projects.

documented ability to successfully compete for and secure research funding, were you have been the main applicant for successfully funded projects with a total amount of at least 3,000,000 SEK (equivalent to approximately 270,000 €).

Period of employment
The position of Assistant Professor is fixed-term for up to six years and is intended to provide qualifications for a permanent teaching position with higher eligibility requirements. During the appointment, there is the possibility to apply for promotion to Associate Professor. If the requirements are met and suitability is confirmed, the appointee may be promoted to a permanent position as Associate Professor.
