The Welder carries out assigned welding activities in compliance with safety, quality, and productivity requirements. The role involves assembling metallic components through fusion welding processes on materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the installation of utilities required for site operations (compressed air, water, electricity, pumping systems, etc.).
- Install safety and warning signage.
- Assist with all site setup activities, including unloading, storage, and material handling.
- Participate in the modification or adaptation of metal support structures.
- Preheat components according to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Review fabrication documentation and drawings.
- Inspect machined parts visually and dimensionally before assembly.
Welding Operations
- Review and follow welding instructions detailed in WPS documents, welding manuals, procedures, drawings, and allocated work schedules.
- Perform welding of assemblies, sub-assemblies, and stud welding using approved welding equipment and consumables.
- Monitor and control interpass temperatures in accordance with WPS requirements.
Inspection and Cleaning
- Ensure compliance with welding specifications, including single-pass and multi-pass welds, weld angles, and dimensional tolerances.
- Thoroughly clean welds and metal surfaces, removing visible defects and welding spatter.
- Perform visual inspections of completed work.
- Record and trace completed work and complete all required documentation.
Equipment Care and Site Close-Out
- Store and organize tools and equipment properly.
- Clean the work area upon completion of activities.
Quality, Safety, Health, and Environmental Responsibilities (QSHE)
- Comply with all Quality, Safety, Health, and Environmental (QSHE) procedures and regulations.
- Follow all operating instructions related to welding equipment and tools.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
- Report any incidents, hazards, or abnormalities to supervisors.
- Report any issues related to certifications or authorizations.
- Participate in waste sorting and environmental protection initiatives.
Specific Activities – Workshop Welder
- Material unloading is performed by the Logistics Department.
- Dimensional inspections are performed by Assemblers.
- Production documentation is completed by Manufacturing Inspectors.
Specific Activities – Site Welder
- Assemble steel sections (such as HEB beams) and accessories according to engineering drawings.
- Perform light fabrication and metalwork activities (supports, hangers, brackets, etc.).
- Carry out oxy-fuel cutting and welding operations.
- Operate cutting tools such as saws and grinders.
- Perform grinding, finishing, and repair work on non-conforming components.
