Project Manager – Wearable Airbag ECU Development
Background
Autoliv is driving a new era of rider protection by expanding advanced safety solutions beyond traditional airbags to protect more road users in more scenarios. As part of this mission, we are developing the next‑generation Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to enable smarter, faster, and more scalable safety systems. The ECU project Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering this ECU across a broader product portfolio, accelerating integration into new applications and vehicle platforms. This role directly contributes to Autoliv’s purpose: saving more lives through innovation Link.
The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering this end‑to‑end digital safety platform, ensuring seamless integration across hardware, software, and connected services, and accelerating deployment across product lines and markets.
This role directly contributes to Autoliv’s purpose: saving more lives through innovation.
MISSION
Lead and deliver Wearable Airbag Digital System development projects across the full lifecycle, covering ECU, embedded software, crash detection algorithms, mobile applications, and cloud platforms — from product evolution and new generations to industrialization and series production.
The Project Manager is accountable for planning, cost, quality, risk, and delivery across all domains, ensuring effective coordination between system engineering, electronics, software, algorithms, app, cloud, validation, industrialization, suppliers, and operations.
The role focuses on the embedded ECU product, its evolution and deployment in the field, while coordinating interfaces with wearables teams and working very closely with mobile application and cloud and crash detection teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Own end‑to‑end development projects covering ECU, algorithms, mobile applications, and cloud platforms (new generations, evolutions, and variants)
Define and control project scope, objectives, milestones, and deliverables across all system components
Build and maintain the global integrated project plan (hardware + software + cloud), managing dependencies and critical paths
Manage project budget and resources (internal and external), including software and cloud development capacities
Anticipate deviations across all domains and drive corrective actions
Technical & Cross‑Functional Coordination
Coordinate all technical contributors:
System & Electronics Engineering, Embedded Software, Crash detection algorithms, Hardware Design, Mechanical Design, Validation & Test, Industrialization & Manufacturing, Mobile App & cloud.
Ensure end‑to‑end system definition and consistency:
System architecture (ECU + App + Cloud + Algorithms)
Interfaces, data flows, and performance allocation
OTA, connectivity, and cybersecurity considerations
Validate technical trade‑offs in collaboration with the Lead System & Electronics Engineer
(cost vs performance, innovation vs risk, short‑term vs long‑term strategy)
Risk, Safety & Quality Management
Identify and manage technical, industrial, planning, and supply‑chain risks
Ensure safety and quality activities are planned and executed:
Ensure compliance with internal processes and applicable standards
Drive escalation and problem resolution on critical issues
Product Lifecycle & Evolution
Manage ECU lifecycle:
Coordinate introduction of new features, electronics changes, and architecture evolutions
(connectivity, FOTA, security)
Manage synchronization between development cycles:
Plan and manage firmware update (FOTA) deployment in coordination with system and software teams
Suppliers & Industrialization
Manage relationships with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and external engineering teams
Support supplier selection and contracting with purchasing
Ensure supplier deliverables meet technical, planning, and quality expectations
Coordinate DFM / DFT and ensure readiness for prototypes, pre‑series, and series production
Monitor manufacturing ramp‑up and ensure proper handover to operations
Reporting & Communication
Provide clear, regular project status reporting to management and stakeholders
Prepare and lead project, milestone, and risk reviews
Ensure transparent communication and effective decision‑making
