The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master’s programs and the researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department has 12 research groups, around 120 PhD students and about 140 employees.
We are seeking a full-time Research Specialist for a 12-month fixed-term position to join the Epidemiology of Psychiatric Conditions, Substance Use, and Social Environment (EPiCSS) research group at Karolinska Institutet. We would like you to be at an early stage in your academic career.
You will mainly work in the LIV project “The Impact of Lifestyle on Health”, which is a large prospective longitudinal cohort study including adults with alcohol use disorders (AUD). The aim of the project is to study the long-term outcomes after dependency treatment and the significance of changes in alcohol use and other lifestyle factors on health. The project will help develop and improve healthcare for AUD and increase understanding of how lifestyle factors affect health in the long term.
The Research Specialist will play a central role in bringing projects across the finish line by data preparation, conducting and refining statistical analyses, updating literature reviews, strengthening interpretation, and contributing to the preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage deeply with studies at differing stages of completion, develop strong analytical and scientific writing skills, and make tangible contributions to high-impact research within a relatively short timeframe. The Research Specialist will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and in collaboration with other members of the research team.
Responsibilities include:

Data management of clinical and register-based datasets
-
Conducting quantitative statistical, and when applicable qualitative, analyses
-
Supporting the interpretation and contextualization of research findings
-
Assisting with literature reviews and updating/synthesizing relevant literature
-
Contributing to the preparation, revision, and submission of scientific manuscripts and presentations
-
Reviewing and organizing existing project materials, including statistical scripts, datasets, and manuscript drafts
-
Updating and refining statistical analyses using longitudinal data
-
Conducting data quality control of complex datasets
-
Supporting the documentation and reproducibility of analytical workflows

Assist with the preparation and coordination of competitive research proposals.

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented postdoctoral research experience.
The position requires that you have:

PhD in public health, global health or a related field

Fluency in spoken and written English

Proficiency in statistical software (R and/or Stata)

Experience with quantitative data analysis and data management

Interest in clinical alcohol research and substance use epidemiology

Documented experience in academic writing, preferably related to research grants or scientific publications
It is meritorious that the applicant has shown:

Experience with mixed methods and/or qualitative data analysis
