The research group, led by Associate Professor Catharina Hagerling, conducts translational cancer research focusing on metastatic cancer in children and adults. The group currently consists of three PhD students, a postdoc and a clinical pathologist. We are part of Lund University’s Cancer Center at BMC and belong to the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Research Engineer with a background in Clinical Pathology to join the project “Uncovering the Non-Random Metastatic Behavior of Childhood and Adult Cancer.” As a Research Engineer, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to other ongoing projects within the research group.
The successful candidate will play a central role in the Advanced Cancer research group and contribute to the development of clinically oriented research projects in metastasis biology, precision oncology, and tumor immunology.

Identification, selection, and quality assessment of clinical tumor and metastatic tissue samples for research purposes.
-
Development, maintenance, and management of research cohorts, including associated clinical and pathological data.

Histopathological evaluation of tumor material, including assessment of tumor content, tissue quality, immune infiltration, and biomarker expression.

Construction and quality control of tissue microarrays (TMAs).
-
Planning, execution, and interpretation of immunohistochemical analyses, including PD-L1, CD8, and other tumor- and immune-related markers.

Integration of histopathological, molecular, and clinical data in translational research projects.

Collaboration with Clinical Pathology, molecular diagnostics laboratories, biobanks, and national research infrastructures.

Contribution to study design, data interpretation, scientific publications, and grant applications.

Supervision of PhD students, medical trainees, and junior researchers.

Active participation in the development of novel biomarkers and precision medicine strategies for patients with metastatic cancer.

Medical degree with board certification in Pathology.

Documented experience in histopathological diagnostics of solid tumors.

Experience with immunohistochemistry and biomarker assessment in routine clinical practice.

Experience working with clinical research cohorts and biobank material.

Experience in tumor classification, tissue evaluation, and quality control of FFPE specimens.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary research environments.

Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Experience in establishing and managing clinical research cohorts and tissue microarrays.
The position is a fixed-term employment for 4 moths at 40%, starting on 2026-09-01 or by agreement.
