Description
Welcome to SSC Space (formerly Swedish Space Corporation), the perfect workplace for those passionate about technology in general and space in particular.
With space organizations, research institutes, institutional and commercial actors as customers, we offer specialist expertise in satellite communications, spacecraft consulting services, rocket and balloon systems, and much more.
SSC Space also has one of the world’s largest global networks of ground stations for satellite communications. We own and operate the Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, northern Sweden, with the aim of launching satellites in the near future.
We offer the opportunity to join the Software unit within SSC Space Connect as a Platform Engineer.
This is an exciting opportunity to take part in how we develop, operate, and support software systems across both cloud and on-premise environments. Together with architects, cloud experts, and software engineers, you will create efficient development and production environments, enable smooth deployment flows, and improve observability to support reliable and efficient operations - all with the goal of delivering great user experience for our customers.
Requirements
We believe you are someone who genuinely cares about the systems you build, the people you work with, and the end users relying on the services. You are curious, analytical, and proactive, with the ability to take ownership of your work and navigate technical challenges independently while collaborating effectively with others.
You likely come from a software development background or have worked closely with development teams in platform, infrastructure, or DevOps related roles. Most importantly, you understand what a great developer experience looks like and want to help create it.
To succeed in this role, we believe you have experience within several of the following areas:
- Experience working with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Experience within containerized environments, preferably Kubernetes.
- Comfortable working in Linux based environments.
- Understanding of modern developer tooling and platform engineering principles.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- A degree within Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar experience.
It is also considered a strong advantage if you have experience with:
- GitHub and Terraform.
- Configuration management tools such as Ansible.
- Python and/or Go.
- Observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Elasticsearch.
- Cloud storage and database solutions, for example S3.
- Optimizing cloud infrastructure usage and costs.
As part of the requirements for this role, you need to hold a European citizenship.
Responsibilities
As a Platform Engineer at SSC Space, you will play a key role in building, improving, and maintaining the internal developer platform and infrastructure that supports critical space related services and operations. You will work closely with developers and other engineering teams to create scalable, reliable, and efficient environments that enable fast and secure software delivery.
In this role, you will:
- Manage, optimize, and continuously improve cloud infrastructure and platform services.
- Support and guide development teams in improving workflows, developer experience, and operational efficiency.
- Automate deployments, monitoring, and operational processes.
- Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code solutions.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of containerized and cloud based platforms.
- Help ensure that systems are reliable, secure, scalable, and easy to maintain.
- Work closely with colleagues across engineering and operations in a collaborative environment.
You will be part of a technically driven environment where both autonomy and teamwork are highly valued. Since the role supports business critical operations within SSC Space Services, participation in an on-call rotation may be included as part of the position. This can involve occasional work outside standard office hours, with up to one week of on-call duty per month.
The role may also require occasional travel within and outside Sweden.
