The Department of Linguistics and Philology, Uppsala University, carries out research in linguistics and text studies with a focus on the languages and cultures of Asia, the classical languages of Europe, general linguistics and computational linguistics. Educational programmes are offered at the BA, MA, and PhD levels. The Department has about seventy employees, who together with students and partners create an international and intellectually stimulating environment. Uppsala University is one of the very few universities in the world where research is done on language standardisation and the development of digital resources for Balochi.
Duties
The duties consist mainly in developing resources for the Balochi standard written language, modern standard Balochi. Specifically:

to standardize spelling and grammar in Balochi short stories and poetry (Arabic and Latin script)

to translate Balochi short stories and poetry into English
-
to create a large parallel corpus for Balochi-English, which will be the basis for machine translation
-
to carry out grammatical annotation of linguistic data for Balochi morphological analysis
-
to increase the number of vocabulary items in the online Balochi-English dictionary
-
to help creating a preprocessing pipeline for Balochi natural language processing
Requirements
The employment requires good knowledge both of Modern Standard Balochi and English, and documented ability to write texts of good quality in both languages, as well as to translate between the languages. These abilities can be proved by means of the applicant’s own texts written in Balochi and translations into English made by the applicant or by previous lexicographic work Balochi-English.
Additional qualifications
Additional qualifications can consist of earlier work on grammatical annotation of Standard Balochi texts, but training will be provided for this throughout the work. Also earlier experience in text edition and book publication in Standard Balochi are additional merits.

About the employment
