As a Qualcomm Build System Engineer , you will design, develop and operate services and methods used for cutting edge software development.
We are seeking additional engineers working with enabling software development using methodologies such as the build system Bazel and the build engine Buildbarn. Today, we have a state-of-the-art Bazel-based build system, and a mono-repository based integration flow. We build ~10Gb of source code and execute tests, including on target hardware, in under 10 minutes for every commit. Your job is to further improve upon this state including diagnose and optimization of performance bottlenecks, introducing new testing strategies and frameworks to further increase confidence, and investigate health metrics and other ways to gain insight into build system optimizations.
Your work includes architecting the build system for products at the magnitude of several hundred to a thousand developers. You will not only operate services such as Zuul and Buildbarn running on for example Kubernetes on prem and AWS infrastructure. You will also push, adapt and impact those products in the open-source community. You will be doing this in a team, using DevOps principles.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
Job Profile Summary (Preferred Qualifications):
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 10+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 10+ year of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and suitable experience.
In addition, the more of the following that is applicable, the better:
Knowledge and experience with the build system Bazel. Knowledge of other build systems such as CMake or Maven is meritable.
Knowledge and experience in Bazel remote build and cache solutions such as Buildbarn, BuildGrid, BuildBuddy, Aspect Build or Engflow.
Deep experience in Git, understanding Gerrit and GitHub workflows in detail.
Knowledge in the Zuul CI engine and its multi repo gating functionality
Experience in running applications on Kubernetes
Experience in operating services in AWS or other cloud services
Experience in service provisioning using Terraform or Ansible
Experience in service monitoring using for example Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic or Datadog
