We are recruiting a Research Assistant with strong wet- and dry-lab experience in spatial omics, genomics, tissue biology and method development to join Emma Andersson Lab at Karolinska Institutet. You will work at the interface of developmental biology, disease modelling, regeneration, and spatial multiomics methods development, helping to understand how genetic perturbations alter organ development, tissue architecture and cellular identity. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to projects focused on inner-ear development, regeneration and disease-relevant tissue remodelling. You will work closely with experimentalists, computational biologists, core facilities and clinical collaborators, and contribute to the development and application of state-of-the-art single-cell, spatial and multimodal technologies.
You will contribute experimentally and computationally to projects aiming to understand how developing organs acquire their correct cellular identities and architectures, and how these processes are altered in congenital disease, injury, aging and regeneration.
Key duties include:
-
Processing, quality control and analysis of spatial transcriptomics, imaging-based transcriptomics, single-cell/single-nuclei RNA-seq, and possibly mass spectrometry, mass spectrometry imaging and related datasets.
-
Contributing to developing new spatial and single-cell/single-nuclei multi-omics approaches that connect tissue morphology, gene expression and molecular phenotypes, including integration of spatial transcriptomics with lineage tracing and potentially mass-spectrometry-based readouts.
-
Developing, adapting and troubleshooting experimental workflows for tissue-based omics, including work with mouse models, organoids, CRISPR-engineered cell systems and/or patient-derived material.
-
Performing data analysis and visualization using R and Python, and working with clinical collaborators to interpret the results.
-
Supporting reproducible analysis workflows, documentation, data management and preparation of figures, reports, manuscripts and grant material.
-
Interacting with core facilities and external collaborators, including clinical collaborators.
Requirements:
-
MSc or PhD (near completion is sufficient) in biotechnology (or closely related).
-
Documented experience with next-generation sequencing technologies, such as single-cell or single-nuclei RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics and long-read sequencing.
-
Experience with spatial transcriptomics platforms such as Visium, Visium HD, Xenium, RNAscope or related technologies.
-
Ability to analyse biological data independently using R and Python.
-
Excellent collaborative skills and ability to work across wet lab, dry lab, core facilities and clinical/translational environments.
-
Good written and spoken English.
Meriting (strongly advantageous):
-
Medical degree or proven experience in translational research.
-
A strong interest in developmental biology, organogenesis, disease mechanisms, regeneration and/or translational tissue biology.
-
A strong interest in bridging experimental biology, computational analysis and medically relevant disease questions.
-
Experience with one or more of the following: exome sequencing, long-read sequencing, LC-MS, mass spectrometry imaging, cell sorting, flow cytometry, histology and digital pathology.
-
Experience developing, optimizing or troubleshooting new experimental protocols for spatial or single-cell/single-nucleus multi-omics technology development.
-
Experience preparing publication-quality figures, manuscripts, protocols, patents or collaborative reports.
