The Role
We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Photonics IC Automation and Test Design to support the development and introduction of next-generation optical communication products. This role focuses on developing and optimising automated optical and electrical test solutions across product development and manufacturing environments.
Working closely with engineering and production teams, you will play a key role in improving test capability, automation, throughput, and product reliability for high-volume photonic and opto-electronic products.
What you will be doing..
- Develop and optimise automated optical and electrical test solutions for photonic and opto-electronic devices.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) activities, including wafer, chip, module, burn-in, and reliability testing.
- Select and implement automated test equipment (ATE) and test strategies for high-volume manufacturing.
- Design and build custom test systems and support integration of optical, electrical, and mechanical components.
- Analyse test and yield data using tools such as Python, JMP, and database technologies.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve product performance, test efficiency, and yield.
- Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Degree qualified in Optoelectronics, Electronics, Engineering Physics, or a related discipline.
- Experience within photonics, semiconductor, or advanced electronic testing environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with automated test systems, optical/electrical measurement equipment, and data analysis. Preferably including designing / integrating customised components, and building / verifying complete test systems.
- Knowledge of analysis tools such as Python, JMP, and databases. Preferably including techniques such as Gage R&R and statistical process control (SPC)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
