Job Overview
We are looking for a Linux Systems Engineer with a background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent technical field to join our infrastructure team. This is an early-career role focused on designing, implementing, and managing robust Linux-based environments that form the backbone of our operations. You will work closely with development and security teams to ensure our systems are not only stable but also scalable and highly available.
Using advanced automation, cloud technologies, and security hardening practices, you will identify opportunities to optimize our infrastructure and enhance system performance. If you have a passion for open-source technology, a mindset for automation, and a desire to build secure, high-performance environments in a dynamic setting, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Design and Architecture: Architect and deploy on-premise or cloud-based Linux environments (AWS/GCP). You will contribute to high-level architectural decisions to ensure our infrastructure supports long-term business growth and technical reliability.
- Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and maintain automation scripts and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet). You will focus on "everything as code" to manage fleets of servers efficiently, reducing manual intervention and increasing deployment speed.
- Security Hardening and Compliance: Implement rigorous security profiles, including SELinux and AppArmor, to protect our ecosystem. You will take a proactive role in vulnerability management, ensuring all systems are patched and hardened against emerging threats.
- Proactive Monitoring and Alerting: Design and manage comprehensive monitoring solutions to track system health. You will identify patterns in system behavior to preemptively address errors and ensure maximum uptime and performance.
- Cross-Functional Technical Support: Assist in partnering with product and engineering teams to specify infrastructure needs for new features. You will help bridge the gap between software development and system operations, ensuring a seamless deployment lifecycle.
- Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest Linux kernel developments, cloud-native tools, and DevOps practices. Participate in workshops and training to enhance your technical expertise in automated systems management.
Growth Opportunities
This role provides an excellent platform for professional development within a cutting-edge technical environment. You will have the chance to work on high-impact projects, learn from senior infrastructure architects, and master the tools that define modern site reliability engineering.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent background with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong foundational knowledge of Linux/Unix environments, with a keen interest in how operating systems interact with cloud-native hardware and networking.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex system issues and develop effective recovery or optimization strategies.
- Basic programming and scripting skills, particularly in Python or Bash, for the purposes of automation and tool integration.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts and a willingness to learn tools like Terraform or Ansible.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse technical teams, translating complex infrastructure needs into actionable plans.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with a process-oriented mindset and a commitment to the stability and security of production environments.
Our benefits include:
- Health & Wellness: Health care coverage designed for the mind and body.
- Flexible Downtime: Generous time off helps keep you energized for your time on.
- Continuous Learning: Access a wealth of resources to grow your career and learn valuable new skills.
- Invest in Your Future: Secure your financial future through competitive pay, retirement planning, a continuing education program with a company-matched student loan contribution, and financial wellness programs.
- Family Friendly Perks: It’s not just about you. OSTTRA has perks for your partners and little ones, too, with some
- best-in class benefits for families.
