The Department of Environmental Science is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science. The department consists of four units with more than 170 employees, including researchers, teachers, doctoral students, and technical and administrative staff from over 30 countries. Our research and teaching cover a wide range of topics, from the interactions between climate change, atmospheric science, and biogeochemical cycles (atmosphere–land–ocean) to the sources, transport, and effects of environmental pollutants. As an employee of the Department of Environmental Science, you will become part of a dynamic environment conducting research in leading scientific fields and maintaining a strong international profile. We are also actively involved in the Bolin Centre for Climate Research, a national centre of excellence for climate research.
More information about us can be found at: The Department of Environmental Science.
We are currently seeking a researcher for a fixed-term position.
The researcher will play a central role in our well-established research program on the links between air pollution and climate change in South Asia. To reduce existing uncertainties, there is a need for field-based observations.
The project focuses on establishing and applying multi-isotope measurements (e.g., δ¹³C, δ²H, δ¹⁸O) to determine the contributions from different sources and the atmospheric chemistry of key gases such as methane and carbon monoxide in the heavily polluted atmosphere of South Asia.
The combination of strategically located regional atmospheric observatories and field stations in both source and receptor areas, together with advanced isotope techniques, makes it possible to determine source functions, atmospheric reactions, and the complete atmospheric cycle of climate-relevant pollutant gases.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a completed PhD in environmental science, atmospheric science, geoscience, and/or chemistry. The position requires extensive hands-on experience with molecular isotope systematics and measurement techniques.
The project involves analyzing the isotopic composition of gases using GC-irMS (e.g., Thermo Fisher Delta V), as well as instrument maintenance, calibration, and data processing. Processing measurement data from laser-based isotope spectrometers (e.g., Picarro instruments) is also an important part of the work.
The ability to collaborate effectively within a team, as well as substantial experience in writing and publishing scientific papers, is highly desirable.
The postdoctoral researcher will be centrally involved in our international collaborations, including field-based measurement campaigns at atmospheric observatories in Bangladesh, India, and the Maldives
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills.
This is a fixed-term position that involves full-time employment for a maximum of 6 months. Start date per agreement.
