The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master’s programs and the researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department has 12 research groups, around 120 PhD students and about 140 employees.
The position of Assistant Senior Lecturer is based in the research group Global Disaster Medicine – Health Needs and Response, which conducts research, runs educational programmes (including an Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme), and delivers several courses within the field. The group also provides policy support to public authorities and seconds experts to disaster response operations. The research group is designated by the National Board of Health and Welfare as a national knowledge centre in the field and maintains close collaboration with WHO and international operational organisations.
As an Assistant Senior Lecturer, you are expected to serve as a central leader for education within the research group. You will be responsible for programme and course leadership, for developing the group’s educational activities, and for conducting independent research within the field. You will also supervise students at different academic levels. Furthermore, you are expected to attract external research funding, develop international collaborations, and actively contribute to the development of the research group.
Description of duties and responsibilities:

Serve as course leader and programme director for the research group’s educational activities, and initiate new educational programmes

Develop and conduct research in global disaster medicine

Supervise student theses and doctoral students

Participate in and support the research group’s other projects and assignments

Act as a senior member of the research group and contribute to its strategic direction and development
Appointment to the position of assistant senior lecturer requires demonstrated pedagogical skills and scientific skills as demonstrated by a PhD or the equivalent scientific competence, or some other professional skills of significance to the nature of the appointment and the tasks and duties it entails.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
In addition to the above requirements, you must have at least five scientific publications as first or last author as well as experience in leading teaching assignments for courses or programs. You must also have excellent spoken and written skills in Swedish and English since the education will be on both languages.

Teaching and pedagogical experience in global disaster medicine will be the most important criterion in the assessment of applicants. Scientific expertise, relevant research experience, and publications are also important assessment criteria. Personal qualities we are looking for is the ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently. Personal qualities will be given special consideration in the recruitment process.
