The department of Occupational Health, Psychology and Sports Science is one of the three departments within the Faculty of Health and Occupational Studies. The department offers master's and doctoral programmes in Occupational Health Science, and undergraduate programmes in both Human Resources and Working Life, and in Sport Sciences. In addition, the department provides stand‑alone courses and commissioned education.
The department of Occupational Health, Psychology and Sports Science is currently seeking an Associate senior lecturer in Occupational Health Science specializing in health economics.
A position as an associate senior lecturer is a fixed-term career development position lasting between four and six years in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, section 12a. The position provides an opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and build a track record in research and teaching to meet the eligibility requirements for subsequently applying for a senior lecturer position. Priority will be given to applicants who obtained their doctoral degree within the five years prior to the closing date for this application.
Area of research and education
Occupational Health Science is an interdisciplinary field at the University of Gävle that examines how work and the work environment influence physical and mental health. The subject includes both strategies for preventing ill health and approaches for promoting good health, resilience, and sustainability for both individuals and organizations. The university’s research in occupational health science is internationally recognized and respected, particularly in the emerging area of Organizational Flexibility for healthy and resilient organizations. Within this context, the associate senior lecturer will integrate health economics with occupational health perspectives, providing essential expertise in both research and education for assessing costs and benefits of work environment and health initiative, which will generate new knowledge that can guide future organizational changes.
Job description
The associate senior lecturer will establish and lead research and education in occupational health economics, with a particular focus on cost and benefit assessment in studies of organizational flexibility performed in close collaboration with private and public organizations. The position involves planning and conducting research projects, publishing in international peer-reviewed journals, developing national and international collaborations, contributing to competitive funding applications, integrating health economics perspectives into existing courses, developing new courses and supervising students. The position also involves collaborating with senior researchers and business partners to design a research project for a doctoral student, and being actively engaged in both the recruitment and co-supervision of that student.
The position includes. approximately 70% research time; the extent of research may vary over time.
The position is based in Gävle, and the associate senior lecturer is expected to work from the university for at least three days a week.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Health Economics and have a background in Business Administration, or have an equivalent and relevant PhD and background. Applicants must have completed a higher education pedagogy course equivalent to at least five weeks of full-time study, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. Those lacking five weeks of higher education teaching training will be given the opportunity to complete this training within two years of starting the position. Applicants must have strong verbal and written communication skills in Swedish or English in both academic and public contexts.
Additional qualifications that will be considered in the candidate rankings include: strong verbal and written communication skills in both Swedish and English, experience of conducting collaborative research with external partners, and international collaboration experience. Previous documented experience in occupational health science is advantageous, particularly in relation to incorporating economic perspectives to the study of physical, organisational and/or social work environment, the relationship between the work environment and health, and/or on organisational health promotion initiatives.
When assessing applicants, particular emphasis will be placed on strong verbal and written communication skills in both Swedish and English, academic qualifications, and publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Teaching qualifications and expertise are also considered. Other assessment criteria include a documented ability to secure external research funding, as well as personal qualities such as independence, the ability to collaborate and lead, initiative taking, and active participation and presence in the workplace.
