Our lab investigates the bidirectional autonomic-sensory neuronal circuits that connect peripheral tissues to the brain. To achieve this, we use an interdisciplinary approach combining viral tracers to visualize neural circuits with adeno-associated viral tools to manipulate circuit activity and gene expression. These approaches are integrated with behavioral and metabolic phenotyping. We are in the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet Biomedicum, a highly interdisciplinary research environment hosting several laboratories with expertise spanning neuroscience, metabolism, imaging, and molecular biology.
We are looking for a motivated individual to help investigate the brain-body circuits regulating homeostasis in health and disease. The selected candidate will work closely with a postdoctoral fellow to dissect the neural circuitry connecting the brain to peripheral organs, including adipose tissue, the digestive system, and skin. Tasks will include perfusion of experimental animals, tissue collection, tissue sectioning, histological preparation, immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, metabolic phenotyping using metabolic cages, and the use of telemetry-based physiological recordings.
The ideal candidate has experience working with mice and models of obesity, as well as hands-on experience with neural tracing approaches, histological techniques, confocal microscopy, and quantitative analysis of neuronal cell counts, tissue innervation, and organ histology. Experience with metabolic phenotyping, image analysis software, or viral approaches is considered an advantage.
