The position as a research engineer is located at the Department of Energy Sciences, LTH, Lund University. Our mission is to conduct research and educate on how energy systems can be developed for a sustainable future. The department has extensive experimental operations, including one of Europe's largest powertrain laboratories with 13 test cells with engines, fuel cells and hybrid systems, a unique high-pressure rig for gas turbine testing, and jet engine rigs. The operations are located at LTH in Lund and at the Department of Aviation and Aeronautical Sciences in Ljungbyhed.
The test cells have special equipment of various kinds that are often designed and manufactured in-house. Examples of such equipment are components that enable optical access to engines via modified cylinder heads and titanium pistons with glass crowns.
You will be part of a team of research engineers, who collaborate with the department's research supervisor and research students. The team's role includes mechanical design, conversion and service of equipment but also support for other laboratory activities according to the department's needs and planning.

We are now looking for qualified candidates for a position as a research engineer to support the department's research and teaching. The job duties primarily involve maintaining and developing the department's engine test cells so that the research activities can be carried out as efficiently as possible.
This work includes:

being a contact person for the energy sciences laboratories
-
servicing and calibrating engine components and equipment for measurement systems
-
designing and manufacturing special components for engines and other laboratory equipment. This work also includes outsourcing manufacturing to specialist companies when necessary.

carrying out some testing with an engine test cell
-
being responsible for documentation of measurement equipment and other laboratory components
-
maintaining the laboratories and workshop equipment for good function and a safe working environment
Requirements for the position:

knowledge of installation, assembly and service of engine components and laboratory equipment
-
knowledge of measuring equipment, its maintenance and calibration
-
documented ability to work together, as the work is done in a team with many people
-
good knowledge of English in speech and writing
Meritorious for the position:
-
knowledge of engines, aircraft engines and gas turbines

experience of engine testing
-
experience of turning, milling and welding for the manufacture of special metal components

experience of design work
-
experience of fuel systems and fuel properties

knowledge of programming and electronics

ability to work under one's own responsibility
