Do you want to help find new treatments for rare kidney diseases and make a real difference for patients? Karolinska Institutet is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to an exciting EU-funded project (ALP-RARE) targeting Alport spectrum disease, a group of rare hereditary kidney disorders with no approved curative therapy. You will join a dynamic international consortium, benefit from state-of-the-art infrastructure, and have excellent opportunities to develop as an independent researcher.
As a postdoctoral researcher you will lead the experimental work of KI's contribution to the multicenter preclinical studies within ALP-RARE. The project aims to validate promising drug candidates in mouse models of Alport syndrome.
Your main responsibilities will include:
-
In vivo studies. Drug treatment, sampling and monitoring of mice in accordance with consortium-wide SOPs.
-
Biochemical analyses. Measurement of biomarkers in plasma and urine.
-
Histology and advanced imaging. Immunohistochemistry, histology stainings, and super-resolution microscopy of glomerular basement membrane structure.
-
Transcriptomics. Contributing to spatial transcriptomics (Xenium) and bulk RNA sequencing analysis.
-
Project coordination. Communication with partner centres, data integration and report writing
-
Publishing findings and presenting results at international conferences
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
We are looking for candidates with:
-
A PhD in biomedical science, physiology, pathology, pharmacology or a related field
-
Solid experience with rodent in vivo work (treatment protocols, sample collection, terminal analyses)
-
Experience with standard histological and biochemical methods (Western blotting, RT-qPCR, ELISA, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry)
-
Ability to work independently and in a structured manner within an international research environment
-
Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
Advantageous qualifications:
-
Experience in renal physiology or kidney disease, including ACR/GFR measurements and kidney histology
-
Knowledge of RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics or bioinformatics
-
Experience with advanced microscopy (confocal, super-resolution)
-
Experience from multicenter or international collaborative projects
