We are offering a 6-month internship for aspiring game designers who are passionate about progression systems, player engagement, and game balance. During this internship, you'll work closely with the team on Witchspire, helping analyze, improve, and expand the game's progression systems while gaining hands-on experience with professional game development workflows and Unreal Engine 5.
Throughout the internship, you will:
Progression Analysis – Evaluate existing gameplay systems, progression loops, and player incentives to identify opportunities for improvement.
Game Balance – Help analyze and refine balancing across progression mechanics, resources, upgrades, crafting, and player progression.
System Design – Design improvements and new features for systems such as tech trees, crafting, progression paths, and player rewards.
Implementation – Assist in implementing and iterating on progression systems directly within Unreal Engine 5.
Playtesting & Feedback – Conduct testing sessions, gather feedback, and use data-driven observations to improve player experience.
Design Documentation – Create and maintain clear design documentation to communicate ideas and system changes effectively.
We're searching for highly motivated students or recent graduates who are passionate about game design and interested in creating engaging progression systems that enhance player experiences.
Strong interest in game design, progression systems, and player psychology.
Analytical mindset with an eye for balance, pacing, and player motivation.
Ability to communicate ideas clearly through written documentation and discussions.
Good problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Self-driven, proactive, and eager to learn.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Must be able to work onsite or relocate independently, as relocation assistance is not provided.
Experience with Unreal Engine 5.
Previous experience designing systems, progression mechanics, or game balance for personal, academic, or modding projects.
Familiarity with spreadsheets and balancing tools.
Knowledge of RPG, survival, crafting, or progression-heavy game systems.
Basic scripting or Blueprint experience.
Gain hands-on experience working on a live game project.
Contribute directly to the continued development of Witchspire.
Learn professional game design and progression design workflows.
Receive mentorship from experienced designers and developers.
Develop practical Unreal Engine 5 experience.
Build valuable industry experience and strengthen your portfolio.
Get a strong industry reference upon successful completion.
