We are looking for someone who has a demonstrable, "hands-on" track record of building, implementing, operating, and scaling an enterprise-scale cloud data platform built around Azure Databricks. This role focuses on platform engineering rather than data pipeline development. While familiarity with data engineering concepts is useful, the primary responsibility is building and operating the underlying Azure Databricks platform
The technical skills we are looking for include:
- Deep knowledge and experience of designing and implementing enterprise-grade Azure Databricks platforms
- Good understanding of workspace architectures
- Strong experience in building and deploying cloud infrastructure across multiple environments using a Infrastructure as Code (IAC)
- Experience of working hands-on with cluster policies, pools, autoscaling strategies
- Strong experience of Azure IT security setup topics e.g. Private Link, networking design, Azure AD (Entra ID), RBAC, and managed identities
- Good experience of storage account architecture (ADLS Gen2 patterns)
- Good Azure cloud foundation skills (security, networking, encryption, access management etc.)
- Experience with data ingestion and data ingestion pipelines using various patterns (CDC, events, streaming, file, API etc.)
- Working knowledge of data engineering (DataOps) ways of working
- Knowledge, or experience, of using Microsoft Fabric or other similar SaaS data platforms is an advantage
