The advertised doctoral position is linked to the research group Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics.
The position is part of a NEST initiative funded by the Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) and the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). The project, Time-Resolved Imaging and Multi-Channel Evaluation of Cellular Dynamics (TIMED), is a 5-year collaboration between researchers at Uppsala University, Chalmers University of Technology, and Karolinska Institute. In the TIMED project we develop new approaches to study cancer and its dynamics by integrating artificial intelligence and temporal data analysis. By studying dynamic biological processes, namely cell behaviour and response to perturbations over time, we enable systematic characterisation of fundamental cellular processes at an unprecedented scale.
Duties
The postdoc project involves establishing cell line panels as well as developing and applying CRISPR-based perturbation systems combined with morphological profiling to map how genetic changes reshape cellular phenotypes. A central scientific goal is to use high-content imaging of live and fixed cell lines to link genotype to morphological and functional phenotype, and to interpret biological responses in terms of signaling pathways. Within the TIMED project you will collaborate with PhD students and senior scientists with complementary expertise in image and data analysis, artificial intelligence, and cancer biology.
More specifically, you will:
-
Develop and validate stable genetically modified cell lines
-
Design and carry out CRISPR perturbation experiments in cell lines
-
Perform high-content imaging of live cells using the laboratory's robotic lab
-
Interpret results and place them in a biological context
-
Contribute to data analysis to link genetic perturbations to phenotypic outcomes
Requirements
-
PhD in a relevant field of experimental laboratory work
-
The degree must be completed no later than at the time when the employment decision is made. Priority should be given to applicants who obtained their degree no more than three years ago. When calculating the three‑year eligibility period, the final application date is used as the reference point. If there are special reasons, the degree may have been completed earlier
-
Experience with molecular biology techniques for cell engineering
-
At least three years of hands-on experience with cell culture and quantitative cell-based assays
-
Experience with high-content fluorescence microscopy, automated microscopy, and image analysis
-
Strong collaborative skills and experience working across research group or departmental boundaries
-
Very good oral and written communication skills in English
Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, motivation, and a genuine interest in research within the field.
