Itron is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water. We create a more resourceful world to protect essential resources for today and tomorrow. Join us.
The world's biggest resource challenge isn't producing more energy, but using energy more intelligently.
We're looking for a Technical Sales Engineer passionate about helping utilities build the intelligent electric grid that powers a sustainable future.
Join us at the forefront of digital transformation in energy, where edge intelligence, AI, and grid modernization enable utilities to integrate renewables, electrify transportation, and create a more resilient world. Your work will directly influence how energy is generated, managed, and consumed—reducing all energy waste, improving efficiency, and helping communities achieve their climate goals.
Develop a strong understanding of the company’s offerings and electricity utility business models to maximize revenue opportunities.
Match customer requirements to effective technical solutions.
Lead the technical aspects of RFP/RFI responses and support proposal development. Support proposal and RFP development by contributing clear technical narratives, solution architectures, and partner storylines where deeper technical input is required.
Maintain strong knowledge of metering (electricity/heat/water/gas), HES, MDMS, and AMI system integration in cloud and on-premise environments.
Maintain working knowledge of relevant communication protocols (Cellular, RF mesh, NB-IoT, LTE CATM/M1, LoRa, PLC, etc) and metering standards (DLMS/COSEM, Mbus, SCADA, etc).
Work closely with Solution Architects to develop competitive offerings and present them effectively, while also acting as a Solution Architect when required.
Coordinate cross-functional input to support the sales process.
Monitor market trends and share relevant insights with Product Management.
Monitor the competitor and partner landscape to identify threats and opportunities.
Identify new sales opportunities within existing accounts.
Act as the primary customer liaison for technical engagements. Respond to customer enquiries, resolve technical issues within agreed SLAs and timescales, and log actions on the appropriate corporate systems.
Maintain regular customer contact and visits to provide technical support and training.
Engage subject matter experts as needed to support complex cases.
Share customer feedback, complaints, and recurring issues with relevant teams to support continuous improvement.
Support the development and maintenance of knowledge base and customer support materials.
Design, deliver, and continuously improve inclusive, high-impact product demonstrations across Itron’s solution portfolio, clearly linking technical capabilities to customer outcomes and business value.
Lead customer-focused, lab-based evaluations that validate integrated solutions, build trust, and support complex, high-priority sales pursuits in regulated utility environments.
Document and maintain demo workflows, lab configurations, and partner integration blueprints to enable consistent, scalable execution across field and partner teams.
Build, manage, and improve virtual lab and evaluation environments to support agile experimentation, solution validation, and rapid response to customer needs.
Drive technical integration with partner technologies, creating reusable, validated solution environments that strengthen the “Itron Inside” ecosystem.
Collaborate closely with Product Management and Services to ensure demonstrations reflect product roadmaps, deployment realities, and customer priorities.
Create internal tools, scripts, videos, and enablement assets that improve access to consistent, high-quality demonstration materials.
Maintain and improve a centralised Itron Demo Channel to support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across internal and partner communities.
Prior experience in technical sales engineering, solution engineering, product management, or a similar customer-facing technical role with a strong commercial mindset and the ability to identify customer needs, position technical solutions, and support revenue growth.
Demonstrated experience with Grid, Distribution Service operator, Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), utility enterprise platforms, and enterprise-scale system integration.
Strong technical storytelling, presentation, and demonstration skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, customer-focused value propositions.
Hands-on experience building and managing virtual lab environments and leading structured solution evaluations.
Proven ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and with external technology partners to define customer requirements and develop effective solutions.
Experience contributing to regulated utility RFPs, technical proposals, and solution evaluations.
Experience working within or alongside utility, energy, or infrastructure organisations, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and innovation.
Detailed knowledge of smart grid concepts, utility industry products and services, and electricity industry trends.
Experience with meter data collection, meter data management systems, advanced metering infrastructure, network architecture, devices, and operations.
Experience with utility communication technologies such as cellular, LTE, IoT (LoRaWAN and NB-IoT), and RF Mesh.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
