Are you a strong leader with profound technological expertise and want to join a entrepreneurial specialized engineering company?
We are supporting PiezoMotor to find their next Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
PiezoMotor AB is a Swedish high-tech company based in Uppsala, developing and manufacturing piezoelectric linear and rotary motors for customers within medical technology, semiconductor manufacturing, advanced optics, and defense. As part of the publicly listed Acuvi Group, PiezoMotor combines the stability and reach of an international technology group with the agility and entrepreneurial spirit of a specialized engineering company. Research & Development, manufacturing, and assembly are all located in Uppsala, where innovation, technical excellence, and customer focus are at the heart of the business.
As CTO of PiezoMotor, you will be a member of the management team and report directly to the CEO of Acuvi Group. This is a highly influential role combining technical leadership, product strategy, customer engagement, and organizational development. As CTO you will be responsible for leading and developing the company's R&D organization while driving the long-term technology roadmap and future product platforms. You will lead a small but highly skilled and growing engineering team and play a key role in shaping the next phase of the company's growth. In addition, you will act as a technical ambassador for PiezoMotor, working closely with customers and partners to understand their needs and translate complex technical challenges into commercially viable solutions.
Key responsibilities:
Lead and develop the R&D organization, ensuring that development activities support the company's business objectives and long-term growth strategy.
Define and execute the technical strategy and product roadmap for future generations of PiezoMotor products.
Lead, coach, and develop the engineering team through clear prioritization, follow-up, and structured ways of working.
Drive product development projects from concept through commercialization in close collaboration with operations and other business functions.
Provide technical leadership across mechanics, electronics, software, and system-level design.
Collaborate closely with customers to understand technical requirements and develop commercially viable solutions.
Act as a technical ambassador for the company in customer meetings, partner discussions, exhibitions, conferences, and industry events.
Identify new market opportunities and application areas within sectors such as semiconductors, medical technology, optics, defense, and space technology, for example drone applications.
Work cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Executive Management to ensure technical decisions are aligned with business and customer needs.
Your profile
This is not a traditional CTO role in a large corporation. We are looking for a technically credible, hands-on leader who enjoys being close to both technology and customers. You understand that successful technical decisions must also make commercial sense and can naturally switch between strategic discussions and detailed engineering challenges.
You are a strong communicator who can explain complex technologies in a clear and engaging way, building trust with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders alike. Most importantly, you are a doer with strong leadership capabilities rather than a PowerPoint strategist.
Required Qualificationse
Minimun B.Sc. or M.Sc. in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
CTO experience is not absolute must but a very strong qualificator.
Proven experience leading and recruiting engineering teams.
Several years of experience in the design and development of precision mechanics, special-purpose machinery, instruments, or similar complex technical products.
Deep understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and how machining methods, surface treatments, and design choices affect performance at both component and system level.
Strong understanding of the differences between accuracy, precision, and repeatability.
Practical experience working with CAD-based mechanical design, preferably SolidWorks.
Good understanding of electronics, software, and communication protocols.
Ability to navigate complex, multidisciplinary engineering challenges and balance detailed problem-solving with a broader strategic perspective.
Strong customer-facing skills and the ability to connect technical decisions with business value.
Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD is an advantage.
Experience with multi-axis positioning systems.
Experience with intellectual property management and patents.
Experience within medical technology, semiconductors, optics, defense, or related high-tech industries.
Experience driving product development from component-level products to system-level solutions.
Fluency in Swedish.
