At the Department of Chemistry, research is conducted in all core areas of chemistry. Important research areas that make use of NMR include, among others, organic chemistry, inorganic coordination chemistry, structure-based drug design, polymer chemistry, physical chemistry studies of soft materials and phase transitions, structural biology, and protein conformational dynamics, aggregation and amyloid formation.
Since 2021, Lund University has invested significant resources in the development of a purpose-built NMR centre located at the Department of Chemistry (KILU). The NMR centre is equipped with three instruments: an 800 MHz Bruker Avance NEO with 4 channels and a 5 mm TCI Z-gradient CryoProbe 1H/13C/15N/2H; a 600 MHz Bruker Avance NEO with 4 channels and a 5 mm QCI(P) Z-gradient CryoProbe 1H-19F/13C/15N/31P; and an older 500 MHz Varian/Agilent VNMRS instrument with 4 channels and several probes. A full-time research engineer (facility manager) is already responsible for servicing the NMR centre.
The position includes the following duties:
-
Qualified service to users of the NMR centre, including project planning.
-
Training new users in the operation of the instruments.
-
Development of pulse sequences and implementation of new experimental methods.
-
Performing experiments.
-
Responsibility for day-to-day operations and maintenance of hardware and software.
-
Planning for future new investments together with the NMR centre’s steering group.
-
A PhD in chemistry, physics or another subject area relevant to the position, or equivalent expertise.
-
Solid knowledge and documented practical experience of NMR spectroscopy.
-
Very good ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
-
service-minded and pedagogical,
-
independent and responsible,
-
analytical and solution-oriented, and
-
detail-oriented and structured.
You have the ability to provide qualified support, work systematically with technical challenges and drive work forward in a quality-conscious manner.
-
A PhD in NMR spectroscopy.
-
Experience of method development, pulse sequence development or implementation of new experimental methods in NMR spectroscopy.
-
Experience of operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of advanced NMR instruments, particularly Bruker systems.
-
Previous responsibility for NMR facilities or equivalent research infrastructure.
The position is a permanent full-time position, 100%, with a starting date November 1st, 2026, or as agreed.
Due to the holiday period, the first selection will take place at the end of August/beginning of September. Contact persons: Mikael Akke, [email protected] – available throughout the application period, except week 32, August 3–9; Daniel Topgaard, [email protected]; Ola Wendt, [email protected].
