You have strong experience managing day-to-day finance operations and are confident overseeing financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, procurement and compliance activities. Equally comfortable analysing financial data and coaching a team, you take pride in building effective processes, developing people and providing trusted advice to stakeholders.
Most importantly, you are proactive, solutions-focused and collaborative. You bring a strong understanding of the Australian financial and regulatory environment and enjoy working with a diverse range of stakeholders to support organisational success.
Reporting to the CFO, the Finance Manager leads the Finance team and plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth delivery of the Institute's day-to-day finance operations. This is a genuine leadership role with responsibility for managing a team across finance, payroll, accounts payable and scientific purchasing, while also being actively involved in financial management and reporting activities.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing operational excellence with stakeholder engagement. You will partner with researchers, professional services teams, funding bodies and external organisations to provide financial guidance, support decision-making and ensure the Institute's financial activities operate efficiently and compliantly.
- Leading and developing a high-performing finance team, including payroll, accounts payable and scientific purchasing functions
- Managing the day-to-day finance operations of the Institute and ensuring the timely delivery of finance services
- Preparing monthly management reports, financial analysis and commentary for senior stakeholders
- Supporting annual budgeting, forecasting, audit and financial reporting processes
- Providing financial advice and business partnering support across research and professional services teams
- Managing grants-related financial reporting, acquittals and compliance requirements
- Ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and compliance with applicable legislation and regulations
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems, processes and reporting capabilities across the organisation
- CPA or CA qualified with relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Finance
- Demonstrated experience leading finance operations and managing finance teams
- Strong understanding of the Australian financial, taxation and regulatory environment, including GST, FBT, payroll and compliance requirements
- Experience overseeing payroll, accounts payable, purchasing and procurement functions
- Proven ability to prepare management reports, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse groups
- Excellent leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring and developing team members
- A proactive, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
