The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology is now accepting applications for a position as Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the Department of Engineering and Chemical Sciences. The department conducts extensive research and offers education within the disciplines of chemistry, chemical engineering, building and construction engineering, and environmental engineering. The department currently has around 60 employees and is responsible for two MSc in Engineering programmes and two BSc in Engineering programmes, as well as a bachelor’s programme in chemistry. We also offer courses within the teacher education programmes and MSc programmes in other disciplines.
We are looking for a colleague to join our team in delivering teaching, developing existing and new collaborations with industry partners, and contributing to our research environment.
The MSc in Chemical Engineering programme focuses on developing new materials and sustainable manufacturing processes. The department also includes an industrial graduate school, EXACT, which aims to contribute to a sustainable manufacturing industry, as well as future-proofing the Swedish process-manufacturing industry through needs-based research.

The main duties consist of teaching courses in the MSc in Chemical Engineering programme and the bachelor’s programme in chemistry, as well as contributing to course development. Teaching includes both lectures and laboratory sessions. You will also conduct research and supervise doctoral students. Duties may also include administrative tasks and assignments within the university’s operations.
You are expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society. An important part of the duties in terms of collaboration includes investigative work for industry partners in chemical engineering analysis linked to Karlstad University’s testbed environment, and in collaboration with staff and companies associated with the Pro2BE research environment.
To contribute to a positive work environment and further the department’s activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
To be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in chemical engineering, applicants are required to have demonstrated teaching expertise. Applicants are also required to hold a PhD or equivalent academic qualifications in chemical engineering, or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
Proficiency in spoken and written Swedish is a requirement as it is the language of instruction in most courses. Proficiency in spoken and written English is also a requirement.
Pursuant to Karlstad University’s Appointments Procedure, teachers must have completed higher education pedagogy training. Candidates who have not completed courses in higher education pedagogy may still be hired, provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required courses within two years of employment, or apply for validation of prior learning.
