We're looking for a Software Engineer to join a newly formed team within our Core Experience Area. Together, we're exploring how modern AI, intelligent interfaces, and contextual systems can create better customer experiences and unlock new ways for customers to interact with Avanza.

Are you an experienced Backend Engineer who loves bridging the gap between robust system architectures and modern AI patterns?
In this role, you'll design and build the orchestration services, API layers, retrieval systems, and contextual capabilities required for sophisticated customer experiences. You'll work with emerging technologies and interaction patterns while ensuring our solutions remain secure, scalable, and highly responsive.
You'll collaborate closely with Product, UX, and engineering partners in a small team with significant influence over both technical direction and product evolution.
Architect Orchestration Layers: Design and build scalable backend services and API layers that handle complex data orchestration between core systems and intelligent capabilities.
Build Context & Retrieval Systems: Design and optimize data retrieval mechanisms (such as RAG and semantic search) to ensure secure, low-latency access to operational context.
Implement Emerging Standards: Evaluate and adopt modern protocols (such as Model Context Protocol) to connect core business logic with orchestration layers.
Optimize Performance & Interaction: Balance response latency, evaluation metrics, and system reliability across complex model APIs and data dependencies.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with UX, Product, and engineering partners to bridge technical architecture with customer experience, ensuring our interfaces maintain the right tone, clarity, and responsiveness.
You are an experienced Software Engineer who is excited about the practical application of AI patterns in production. While you enjoy the complexities of backend architecture, you also care about the customer experience and understand that intelligent systems require a balance between strict data boundaries and the nuances of human interaction.
We are looking for someone who has all or most of the following:
Advanced Integration Experience: A proven track record of shipping software that integrates Large Language Models (LLMs) or agentic workflows into production environments.
Data & Vector Savvy: Experience working with vector databases, embeddings, and complex retrieval strategies (RAG).
Interaction & Flow Expertise: Experience building conversational features, interactive workflows, or natural language interfaces.
A Strong Backend Foundation: A solid understanding of modern distributed systems, API design, and secure software development.

We are currently a Swedish-speaking organization, but we welcome English-speaking candidates for this role, as long as you're comfortable working in an environment where much of the daily communication, meetings, and documentation is still in Swedish. This is something that we believe will evolve over time.
We believe in flexibility and operate with a hybrid work model that combines remote work with productive on-site collaboration 2-3 days a week or more at our office.
