Join the dynamic and cooperative team and group led by Assoc. Prof. Lara Kular and Prof. Maja Jagodic at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience. We are physically located at the Center for Molecular Medicine, a translational medical center with ~500 researchers working on complex diseases, and with extensive national and international collaborations. The Functional (Epi)genomics of Neuroinflammatory Diseases group is part of the Karolinska Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (KNIMS) network which gathers around 90 researchers working on different aspects of the pathogenesis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other neuroinflammatory diseases, including genetics, epidemiology, immunology and epigenetics, with excellent clinical cohorts and experimental models. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to interactive research driven by pertinent clinical questions, combining deep molecular understanding of the mechanisms underlying Multiple Sclerosis (MS). You will benefit from a highly collaborative, engaged and international research environment where you will have the possibility to conduct research at the top international level in the field.
We are looking for a candidate who has a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, data analysis or similar field. The successful candidate will join our research team and collaborate with PhD students, postdocs, and senior researchers to decipher multiple sclerosis pathogenesis, with a focus on the mechanisms underlying the impact of smoking-induced lung inflammation in MS.
The work entails analysis of omic data and multi-omic integration from bulk next-generation sequencing transcriptomic (coding and non-coding RNA-seq), methylomic (Illumina array and EM-seq) data with possibility to analyze single-cell data.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Requirements
The following criteria are essential:

PhD in life sciences in the field of computational science/biology

Solid programming proficiency, especially in R , Python and Linux-based software

Demonstrated skills in array/sequencing-based omics data processing, analysis, visualization and interpretation

Documented experience in multi-omic integration

Documented knowledge of statistics

Experience with high-performance computing using clusters like UPPMAX
-
Ability to demonstrate good inter-personal and communication skills

High proficiency in spoken and written English
The following experience and qualifications will be considered meritorious:

Scientific and/or research background on human diseases and mechanisms involved in autoimmunity, lung biology and/or inflammation.

Knowledge of mechanisms of gene regulation and epigenetics including DNA methylation, non-coding RNA biology.

Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with colleagues and students in an interdisciplinary research environment.
