Overview:
DATA ENGINEER – Enterprise Data Hub
Join us in transforming global logistics. At Wallenius Wilhelmsen, we don’t just move cargo, we move the world.
As the market leader in roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) shipping and vehicle logistics, we manage the global distribution of cars, trucks, and heavy equipment across six continents. With 125 vessels, 66 processing centers, and 8 marine terminals, we are reimagining how global logistics can be smarter, greener, and more connected.
We’re on a mission to lead the green transition in logistics and aim to be carbon neutral by 2040. Join our transformation journey and help shape the future of digital supply chain solutions.
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to build and operate the Data Hub platform - a core enabler for Enterprise Orchestration and data-driven decision-making across our global operations.
This is a hands-on engineering role (70% engineering / 30% design and enablement).
You will work closely with business process experts in Shipping, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management, as well as architects, platform teams, and initiative teams, to deliver scalable, production-grade data products. This is a high-impact role where you will contribute directly to shaping how our data platform is built, operated, and consumed.
Job Description:
The Data Hub provides end-to-end, real-time intelligence across Logistics, Shipping, Operations, Inventory, and Finance.
It enables forward-looking insights such as predicting volume flows, monitoring capacity constraints, and identifying congestion risks. Through standardized and governed data products, the platform supports faster decision-making and operational efficiency across the logistics network.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
-
Design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines and transformations within Microsoft Fabric (MF) and Azure.
-
Develop and maintain reusable, production-grade data models and entities (e.g. Cargo, Capacity, Voyage) aligned with the enterprise data model
- Implement and enforce medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), with a strong focus on high-quality, reusable Silver layer data
- Build data products with clear ownership, SLAs, documentation, and governed interfaces (data contracts)
- Contribute to event-driven and near real-time data patterns where relevant to enable low-latency use cases
- Ensure data quality, monitoring, observability, and operational reliability across all pipelines and data products
- Implement CI/CD and automation using GitHub, and contribute to Infrastructure as Code practices (Bicep)
- Collaborate with architects and platform teams to align on standards, patterns, and platform evolution
-
Enable initiative teams through reusable components, onboarding support, and clear consumption patterns
Job Requirements:
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Technical expertise
-
Strong hands-on experience building and operating data pipelines in Microsoft Fabric (MF), Azure Data Factory (ADF), or equivalent platforms
- Advanced SQL and strong programming skills in Python (or similar) for scalable data transformation
Experience with data modeling and building reusable, conformed data models across multiple data sources
- Solid understanding of lakehouse architecture, Delta/Parquet formats, and batch vs streaming processing patterns
- Experience with CI/CD, version control, and production deployment using GitHub or similar
Understanding of data quality, monitoring, and operational aspects of running data platforms in production
-
Engineering mindset
-
Strong ownership mentality - you build for reliability, reuse, and long-term maintainability
-
Structured and pragmatic approach to solving complex data engineering challenges
-
Ability to balance speed of delivery with platform standards and quality
-
Comfortable working in a product-oriented environment where data is delivered as reusable assets
Nice to have
-
Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming technologies (e.g. Event Hubs)
- Familiarity with API-based data integration patterns and decoupled architectures
-
Experience with data governance tooling (e.g. Microsoft Purview) and metadata management
-
Domain experience within Logistics, Shipping, Supply Chain, or similar industries
-
Reduced time from initiative request to first usable data product or entity
- High reuse of Data Hub entities across initiatives, reducing duplication
-
Strong SLA adherence, data freshness, and low incident rates
-
High data quality and completeness of documentation and metadata
-
Contribution to scalable, modular platform patterns adopted by multiple teams
-
Work closely with the Data Hub team to design and deliver reusable data products aligned with platform standards
-
Collaborate with the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) team to align on upstream data models, ingestion, and data availability
-
Partner with initiative teams (e.g. Network Visibility, Integrated Enterprise Planning, Demand Forecasting) to translate business requirements into scalable data solution
