The department of clinical science and education (KI SÖS) is seeking a research assistant to work with sample management and other research-related tasks within several ongoing clinical projects. As a research assistant at KI SÖS, you will be part of professor Erik Melén’s research group, working in close collaboration with other research groups and clinical staff. Our research focuses on increasing knowledge about disease etiology and prognosis, with a strong emphasis on asthma, allergies, and lung function. The role offers varied and stimulating tasks in a dynamic translational research environment.
The position is a fixed-term position for one year.
As a research assistant, you will have two primary areas of responsibility. You will be involved in planning and conducting the collection and handling of several types of biological samples as part of the next planned follow-up of the BAMSE cohort. The BAMSE project was initiated in 1994 and has since followed more than 4,000 children born between 1994 and 1996. The study has provided valuable insights into how lifestyle, environmental factors, and genetics influence childhood asthma, allergies, and lung development.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for research-related tasks within a project focused on biomarkers and lung function development in newborns. The work includes handling biological samples, applying experimental methods to measure protein biomarkers, registering data, and analyzing and compiling results.

Requirements

Master's degree (or equivalent) in biotechnology, biomedicine, molecular biology, or another for the position relevant field

Documented experience in handling various types of biological samples

Documented experience with methods for measuring protein biomarkers
Meritorious

Basic knowledge of programming languages for data analysis (for example R, Python or STATA)

Basic knowledge of the REDCap software

Experience in handling blood samples collected using filter paper
As a person, you have excellent collaboration and communication skills. You enjoy working in a team while also having the ability to work independently and drive your work forward. Furthermore, you are flexible and able to quickly switch between different tasks. As the role involves collaboration with both national and international colleagues and partners, very good skills in Swedish and good skills in English, both written and spoken, are required. In the evaluation of candidates, particular emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
