Human Geography is about the relations between people and places. The subject is rooted in theoretical frameworks in human geography and the social sciences. Development studies focus on global inequity and development challenges particularly in the Global south. The Department of Human Geography has a broad social geography profile, and teaching takes place in the main subject areas of Human Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Global Development and Geography. We also participate in several interdisciplinary programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The duties consist of teaching, research and administration, as well as monitoring and contributing to developments in the field of Global Development from both a research and teaching perspective.
Teaching will primarily take place in the programmes in Global Development, but teaching will also be undertaken in the programmes in human geography, urban and regional planning, and geography at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Teaching at undergraduate level is conducted in Swedish, whilst teaching at postgraduate level is conducted in English. During the first two years, teaching duties are expected to amount to at least 50%.
The employment is shared between research and teaching according to the current collective agreement.
To be eligible for appointment as a senior lecturer, the applicant must have obtained a doctoral degree in Human Geography or possess equivalent academic qualifications and have demonstrated teaching expertise.
A requirement is to have teaching and research experience within the subject area Global Development.
The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order successfully to meet the demands of the position.
To be able to perform the duties of the position, the applicant must have a documented ability to use Swedish in speech and writing at a professional level. This can be demonstrated, for example, by documented experience of teaching in Swedish or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least B2 level (CEFR).
Special and equal emphasis will be placed on teaching and research skills within the subject of Global Development.
Teaching proficiency should normally be demonstrated through teaching experience at both the undergraduate- and master’s levels. Teaching proficiency should be well documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.
Strong emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.
Strong emphasis will also be placed on having successfully planned, applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies in the field of Global Development.
Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.
It is a merit to have completed at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.
This position (in Swedish, “universitetslektor”) is full-time, indefinite-term employment. A six-month probationary period may apply.
An applicant who does not have at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, and is not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge, must complete such training within the first two years of employment.
