We are recruiting a Senior Scientist with expertise in histology for a consulting assignment at AstraZeneca's R&D site in Gothenburg. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Bioscience Department within Immunology and contribute directly to respiratory drug discovery projects in a world-class research environment.
As a Senior Scientist you will be a key member of a highly motivated team, working closely with departments focused on Target Translational Science, Bioscience in vitro assays, and Drug Metabolism/Pharmacokinetics. The role is partly lab-based, with responsibility for planning, performing, and evaluating histological analyses, as well as driving the establishment of new techniques.
You will characterize and validate target expression and evaluate drug-target engagement in both patient and in vivo tissue samples, independently assess and report data, and present findings in cross-functional project meetings.
REQUIRED
PhD in a relevant discipline (Bioscience, Respiratory, or related field)
Strong hands-on histology skills: immunohistochemistry, histochemistry, in situ hybridization including RNAscope
Experience with automated staining platforms (e.g. Ventana Discovery Ultra, Leica Bond)
Proficiency in image analysis platforms (e.g. Visiopharm, Halo)
Solid understanding of statistical methods, quality control, and data reporting
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
DESIRABLE
Knowledge of respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, or IPF
Experience in histology scoring and histomorphometry
Familiarity with deep learning image analysis, e.g. image segmentation and classification
Knowledge of advanced histological techniques: spatial transcriptomics, multiplex staining, tissue optical clearing
Scripting experience in Python or R
Background in pharmacology, physiology, or immunology
