The Digital and Synthetic Capability Unit (D&S) is committed to providing mission-driven information solutions that seamlessly bridge the digital and physical realms. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies and advanced platforms, we empower operational readiness and elevate situational awareness across diverse domains—including air, maritime, and space.
In this role you will join our World team and work on optimization of real-time rendering systems, with an emphasis on modern rendering techniques and GPU pipeline mastery. While expertise with Unreal Engine is not mandatory, it is considered a significant advantage. As a candidate you will bring a deep understanding of rendering architectures, shader programming, and the latest technologies.
- Lead the design and development of systems to support a large-scale synthetic, procedurally generated twin of the world.
- Architect and implement scalable world-building workflows, including terrain management, asset streaming, scene partitioning, and data-driven content pipelines.
- Act as the natural point of contact for any queries relating to the architecture of world systems
- Drive best practices for 3D engine development across the team, including code quality, performance, and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with technical artists, data engineers, and domain experts to translate real-world data into high-fidelity, interactive environments.
- Optimize performance across CPU, GPU, memory, and streaming systems to meet real-time constraints at world scale.
- Extend and customize core engine systems and tools (C++) to support simulation, visualization, and geospatial use cases.
- Mentor and support other engineers, contributing to technical direction and raising the overall bar of the team.
- Evaluate and integrate new engine features, APIs, and SDK tools relevant to large-scale world simulation.
- Strong experience developing within modern 3D game engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity, or proprietary equivalents), including deep familiarity with core engine architecture.
- Expertise in C++ and standard object-oriented programming frameworks.
- Proven experience building or contributing to large-scale environments or open worlds, including scene management, modern streaming tech, and world partitioning.
- Solid understanding of real-time performance optimization, including profiling tools and debugging techniques.
- Experience working with data-driven pipelines, external data integration, or procedural content systems.
- Ability to work across disciplines and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience operating at a senior/staff level, influencing technical direction and mentoring others.
- Experience with geospatial data (GIS, photogrammetry, LiDAR, OpenStreetMap, etc.) or real-world data ingestion pipelines.
- Familiarity with modern rendering paradigms (e.g., virtualized geometry, global illumination, physics engines).
- Experience building tools and workflows for content creators and technical artists.
- Background in simulation, digital twins, or large-scale visualization systems.
- Passion for building systems that bridge the digital and physical world at a global scale.
- Comfortable working in an evolving environment with ambiguous problems and long-term technical vision.
