About the position
We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal Europe & Transformation team in Stockholm. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced lawyer who values breadth, complexity, and business proximity over specialization. In this role, you will provide daily legal support to several key areas of SSAB's business and will work on some of SSAB's most strategically important initiatives.
You will take ownership of significant legal matters from start to finish, and collaborate with colleagues across Legal, Procurement, Finance, and owners of our key transformation projects. You will thrive in this role if you enjoy navigating a broad range of legal challenges and have the experience and confidence to move seamlessly between complex contract negotiations, real estate matters, privacy and compliance issues, disputes, and strategic projects such as M&A transactions.
You will become part of a highly experienced legal team supporting operations across Europe, working in an environment characterized by collaboration, trust, and business engagement.
Main Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day legal support to the designated business units and beyond, with special focus on Sweden and function as a legal resource for projects driven by our Business Units and Corporate Functions
Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements, including but not limited to procurement, sales, construction, real estate, and service contracts
Act as a trusted legal advisor to business stakeholders on commercial, contractual, corporate, compliance, and governance matters
Support strategic projects, including large-scale transformation initiatives, complex contracting arrangements, disputes, litigation, and occasional M&A activities
Advise on regulatory and compliance matters, including competition law, sanctions, KYC, ethics and compliance, and data privacy topics
Develop and maintain contract templates, legal processes, and practical guidance for the business
Occasionally deliver legal and compliance training across the organization
Coordinate and manage external legal advisors when required
About You
You have Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree.
You have extensive experience (around 10 years), either as an in-house legal counsel within an industrial or manufacturing company or from a business-oriented law firm
You have solid experience advising on commercial and contract law matters
You are great at drafting and negotiating supplier and customer agreements
You are known for your strong business acumen and the ability to provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice
You are great at building internal networks and you often receive feedback for your excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
Fluent written and spoken English and Swedish are a key requirement to be successful in this role
You are willing to travel occasionally within the Nordic region to be closer to your internal clients
Meritorious Qualifications
Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, construction, infrastructure, or large project-based businesses is a strong plus
Further experience with e.g. competition law, financing, or data privacy matters will make our team even stronger
