Research at the Division of Biophysical Chemistry includes studies of biomolecular interactions, structure and dynamics, with the aim of understanding biological systems and processes at the molecular level. The focus is on experimental and theoretical studies of the physical properties of proteins in solution. The Division of Biophysical Chemistry is part of the Centre for Molecular Protein Science (CMPS).
CMPS offers a highly creative environment that enables leading research. CMPS consists of research groups with expertise in a range of biochemical and biophysical methods (see: https://www.cmps.lu.se) and thus provides an excellent environment for skills development.
The position is based in Professor Mikael Akke’s research group and is funded by the Swedish Research Council.
The Department of Chemistry’s NMR laboratory includes an 800 MHz Bruker NEO instrument with 4 channels and a 5 mm TCI Z-gradient CryoProbe with cooled preamplifiers for 1H, 13C, 15N and 2H, and a 600 MHz Bruker Avance NEO with 4 channels and a 5 mm QCI(P) Z-gradient CryoProbe 1H-19F/13C/15N/31P. A full-time research engineer (facility manager) services the NMR laboratory.
You will be involved in advanced NMR relaxation experiments and analysis of the results to characterise the internal dynamics of proteins. The duties include developing analysis programs in Python. You will work on defined sub-projects within the overall framework of the research project. You will work together with doctoral students, postdocs and senior researchers.
The duties include:
-
Performing heteronuclear NMR relaxation experiments to investigate protein dynamics
-
Developing analysis programs in Python
-
Analysing and interpreting the results
-
Report writing
-
A Master of Science in Engineering degree, a Master’s degree, or another degree at an equivalent level
-
Solid knowledge and documented practical experience of NMR spectroscopy with a focus on protein dynamics
-
Very good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in English
-
Very good communication skills
-
Independence and ability to collaborate
-
Flexibility and the ability to quickly familiarise oneself with new tasks
Consideration will be given to how the applicant, through their experience and expertise, is assessed to complement and strengthen the administrative work within the division/department and contribute to its future development.
The position is fixed-term for 6 months, full-time, starting on 15 September 2026 or as agreed.
Due to the holiday period, the recruitment process will be paused during the summer. We plan to resume the process and initiate the next step during the second half of August.
The application must include a CV and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position and how the position matches your qualifications. The application should also include degree certificates or equivalent documentation, as well as any other documents you wish to refer to, such as copies of grades, contact details for references, letters of recommendation, etc.
We welcome your application!
