The Department of Dental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet has been ranked four times as the best in the world in terms of education and research. The Department provides undergraduate education for dentists and dental hygienists, specialist training, and doctoral education.
The Division of Oral Rehabilitation conducts undergraduate and doctoral education in prosthodontics. The research is translational, with a focus on the regulation of oral functions by the nervous system and on prosthetic rehabilitation.
Description of the subject area
Oral prosthodontics encompasses the diagnosis, planning, and rehabilitation of missing or damaged teeth and oral structures, with a focus on restoring and optimizing oral function, aesthetics, and oral health. The field ranges from removable and fixed prosthodontics to implantology and digital methods.
Research at the Department of Dental Medicine is translational, spanning from basic biological mechanisms to clinical application, with an established focus on the neurophysiological processes that regulate chewing and oral functions following prosthetic rehabilitation. Education in oral prosthodontics covers all aspects of the subject at both undergraduate and advanced levels.
The position includes clinical duties, leadership responsibilities within education, and active participation in the research environment
Your mission
We are seeking a candidate with a strong commitment to education and research in oral prosthodontics at a high international level. The role includes pedagogical development and the evaluation of new forms of education, such as simulator-based training, digital tools, and objective assessment methods. You will conduct and lead research of high international quality, ranging from experimental studies to patient-oriented research, and supervise doctoral students. Clinical practice is included, as well as responsibility for specialist training in oral prosthodontics, supervision and examination of specialist trainee dentists, and quality assurance in collaboration with the University Dental Care services.
You are also expected to strengthen collaborations with regional, national, and international networks and contribute to evidence-based prosthetic care with a focus on function and patient-centered outcomes.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on education and research the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills; very good scientific skills and good clinical skills.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If such training is not in place at the time of appointment, you are expected to complete this training within the first two years of employment as part of the position.
The appointment will be combined with a clinical position as a specialist-trained dentist in oral prosthodontics at the University Dental Care services, Karolinska Institutet. Therefore, applicants must hold a dental degree as well as specialist qualifications in oral prosthodontics in accordance with the requirements of the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare.
Since the employment includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale, CERS).
The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills 2, pedagogical skills 3, leadership and collaboration skills 2, and clinical skills 2.
